How much do you really save with a presentation deal?
You save the spread between the vacpack price and the room's real market rate — and that spread is genuinely large, because the brand is subsidizing your stay to get you to the presentation. Our median tracked deal is $199 and the average is $301 for a multi-night package. Against a typical branded-resort nightly rate, a two-to-four-night package at that price is a real discount. The catch is that the discount is paid for with your time: the 116-minute average presentation is the price you pay in kind.
So the honest framing is two numbers, not one: the real saving (vacpack price versus true room rate) and the time cost (the presentation). We publish the price side transparently; you decide whether your time clears the bar. Compare live package prices against what you would pay retail on our deals page and by market on our Orlando lander.
The spread by market
The table shows the average vacpack price by market. The saving is the distance between these numbers and the retail rate for a comparable multi-night stay in the same market.
| Market | Avg vacpack | Cheapest vacpack | Per night |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gatlinburg, TN | $141 | $49.00 | low |
| Orlando, FL | $258 | $49.00 | $60–$95 |
| Branson, MO | $177 | $50.00 | low |
| Myrtle Beach, SC | $177 | $50.00 | low |
| Las Vegas, NV | $240 | $51.19 | moderate |
| Williamsburg, VA | $175 | $48.86 | low |
The retail-value inflation problem
Here is where we play watchdog. Many listings advertise a “retail value” — “valued at $915” — that is a marketing figure, not a price anyone actually pays. It is built from published rack rates that almost no one books at, plus the notional value of included extras. The real saving is against the street price of the room, which is lower than rack rate, so the advertised “you save $866” is inflated. The measurable saving is still real and often substantial, but it is smaller than the headline. Read “retail value” as a ceiling, never as your actual alternative cost.
Before you book, look up the real current rate for the same resort and dates, subtract the vacpack price, and judge whether that saving is worth your presentation time. Track where package prices sit now on our rate recap.
Doing the real-saving math yourself
Here is the two-minute exercise that replaces the inflated retail claim with a real number. Look up the actual current street rate for the same resort and dates on any ordinary booking site — not the rack rate, the price you could really pay today. Subtract the vacpack price. That difference is your genuine room saving, and it is almost always real and often large. Then subtract the value of your presentation time at whatever your hour is worth. What remains is your true net saving, and it is the only number worth deciding on. The advertised “retail value $915” plays no part in this calculation, because nobody pays $915; it exists to make the discount look bigger than it is. Done honestly, the math usually still favors the vacpack for travelers who do not mind the presentation — but it favors it by a smaller, truthful margin, and knowing the real margin is what separates a smart buyer from a persuaded one.
