7 Best Puerto Vallarta Vacation Deals

By The VacationDeals.to TeamMarch 14, 20268 min read

If Cancun is Mexico's spring break party, Puerto Vallarta is its sophisticated older sibling who studied abroad and actually learned the language. PV (as regulars call it) has cobblestone streets, world-class restaurants, a thriving art scene, and beaches backed by jungle-covered mountains. It also has vacation deals so good they feel illegal. My first PV trip was supposed to be three nights. I extended it to seven because the resort deal was $119 a night and I literally could not justify going home to weather that was 40 degrees colder. My boss was understanding. Mostly. See all our deals on the homepage.

1. Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta — $159/Night for 5 Nights

Vidanta's Nuevo Vallarta property is an absolute beast of a resort. We're talking a Cirque du Soleil theater, a lazy river that winds through the entire property, multiple infinity pools, and restaurants that could hold their own in any major city. The suites range from studios to three-bedroom villas, all immaculately designed.

Vidanta runs their own promotional program, and the presentation is about 2 hours. The resort is in Nuevo Vallarta (about 20 minutes north of downtown PV), which is the newer, more resort-oriented area. The grounds are so vast and beautiful that many guests never leave the property — which is both a compliment and a mild concern.

2. Villa del Palmar Flamingos — $119/Night for 4 Nights

The cheapest deal on this list and a perennial favorite. Villa del Palmar Flamingos is on a beautiful Nuevo Vallarta beach with spacious suites, full kitchens, and ocean views. The resort has multiple pools, a spa, and several restaurants. At $119 a night on a Mexican Pacific beach, this is the kind of value that makes you question your life choices (specifically, why you didn't do this sooner).

BookVIP and other promotional sites feature this deal regularly. The resort offers an optional all-inclusive upgrade that's reasonably priced. The beach here is wide and swimmable, and the sunsets over the Pacific are absolutly spectacular. Bring a camera. Or don't — some things are better just experienced.

Fun Fact: Puerto Vallarta became famous after Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton had a scandalous love affair here while filming "The Night of the Iguana" in 1963. The paparazzi descended, the world noticed PV, and the rest is tourism history. Thanks, Hollywood drama.

3. Marriott's CasaMagna Resort — $149/Night for 4 Nights

CasaMagna is in the Hotel Zone between Nuevo Vallarta and downtown PV, giving you easy access to both areas. The resort is beachfront with a stunning infinity pool, multiple restaurants, and rooms that have been recently renovated. The Marriott name ensures consistent quality, and the beach here is one of the better swimming beaches in the area.

Marriott Vacations runs this deal, and the presentation is about 2 hours. The Hotel Zone location means you can take a $5 bus ride to downtown PV for authentic restaurants and nightlife, then retreat to your resort for peace and quiet. Best of both worlds.

Pro Tip: Take the local bus from the Hotel Zone to downtown PV for about 12 pesos ($0.70). It's safe, frequent, and drops you right on the Malecón — PV's famous oceanfront boardwalk with sculptures, street performers, and some of the best people-watching in Mexico.

4. Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit — $199/Night All-Inclusive for 3 Nights

Grand Velas is the ultra-luxury option on this list, and at $199 a night all-inclusive, it's a fraction of its regular rate (which can exceed $600/night). This resort has won basically every award in the hospitality industry. The all-inclusive includes gourmet restaurants, premium spirits, 24-hour room service, and a spa that'll make you forget your name.

Grand Velas runs their own timeshare program, and the presentation is well-organized at about 2 hours. The resort is in Nuevo Nayarit, on a pristine beach backed by jungle. The suites are massive with ocean views, deep soaking tubs, and private terraces. It's the kind of place that makes you understand why rich people are always traveling.

5. Occidental Nuevo Vallarta — $129/Night All-Inclusive for 4 Nights

Occidental offers a solid all-inclusive experience at a very competitive price. Beachfront location, multiple restaurants, pools, and entertainment. The rooms are standard resort quality — nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable with ocean or garden views. The all-inclusive package covers all meals, drinks, and basic activities.

This deal comes through various promotional channels and is ideal for budget-conscious travelers who want the all-inclusive convienence without the luxury price tag. The resort is in Nuevo Vallarta with beach access and easy connections to downtown PV.

Fun Fact: Puerto Vallarta's Zona Romántica (Romantic Zone) is one of Mexico's most LGBTQ+-friendly neighborhoods. The area has a vibrant bar and restaurant scene, art galleries, and some of the best street food in the city. It's welcoming to everyone, which is exactly how it should be.

6. Mayan Palace Nuevo Vallarta — $129/Night for 5 Nights

Mayan Palace (part of the Vidanta family) offers a more affordable alternative to the flagship Vidanta resort. The suites are still excellent with full kitchens and balconies, and you get access to many Vidanta amenities. The beach is beautiful, the pools are plentiful, and the grounds are lush and tropical.

Vidanta runs this deal through their promotional program, and it's a great option for families who want the Vidanta experience at a lower price point. The resort is self-contained with restaurants, shops, and a kids' club. Five nights at $129 gives you a full week of vacation for less than most people spend on a weekend getaway.

7. Sheraton Buganvilias — $139/Night for 3 Nights

Sheraton Buganvilias has the best location of any resort hotel in PV — right on the beach at the edge of the Romantic Zone, walking distance to downtown. The rooms have been renovated, the pool overlooks the ocean, and the on-site restaurants are excellent. You can walk to the Malecón, the night market, and dozens of restaurants within minutes.

Marriott Vacations runs this deal, and the downtown-adjacent location is the major selling point. Most PV resort deals are in Nuevo Vallarta (20 minutes north), but Buganvilias puts you right in the action. It's the best option for people who want to experience real Puerto Vallarta, not just the resort bubble.

Pro Tip: PV has incredible street tacos that cost 20-30 pesos ($1.50-2) each. The taco stands near the Malecón and in the Romantic Zone serve some of the best food in the city. Don't be afraid to eat street food — if there's a line of locals, it's safe and delicious.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Puerto Vallarta safe?

The tourist areas (Hotel Zone, downtown, Romantic Zone, Nuevo Vallarta) are generally very safe. PV has a strong tourism police presence and a welcoming local community.

What's the difference between PV and Nuevo Vallarta?

Puerto Vallarta is the established city with Old Town, restaurants, and nightlife. Nuevo Vallarta (now Nuevo Nayarit) is newer with large resort complexes. They're about 20 minutes apart.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?

November through May for dry weather. December-March is peak season. June-October is rainy season but much cheaper. Rain usually falls in afternoon showers, leaving mornings sunny.

Can I drink the water in Puerto Vallarta?

Stick to bottled or purified water. Resorts use purified water and ice. Street food vendors generally use purified water, but it's worth asking.

How is the food in Puerto Vallarta?

PV has one of the best food scenes in Mexico. From street tacos to fine dining, the quality and variety are exceptional. The seafood is incredibly fresh and affordable.

Is Puerto Vallarta LGBTQ+-friendly?

Yes, very much so. The Zona Romántica is one of Mexico's most LGBTQ+-welcoming neighborhoods, with numerous bars, restaurants, and hotels catering to LGBTQ+ travelers.

What water activities are available?

Snorkeling, scuba diving, whale watching (December-March), surfing, paddleboarding, parasailing, and boat tours to the Marietas Islands and Yelapa beach.

Do I need pesos in Puerto Vallarta?

US dollars are accepted at resorts and tourist businesses, but you'll get better value using pesos. ATMs dispense pesos at fair exchange rates.

How far is the airport from the hotel zone?

Gustavo Díaz Ordaz Airport (PVR) is about 10-15 minutes from downtown PV and 20-30 minutes from Nuevo Vallarta resorts.

Is PV better than Cancun?

Different vibes. PV has more culture, better food, mountains + beach, and a less touristy feel. Cancun has Caribbean water, more all-inclusive options, and Mayan ruins. Both are excellent.
